OpenMU · Season 6 Episode 3

Server rules

General Information

1. Acceptance of the Rules

All registered OpenMU users are required to comply with these rules. Use of openmu.ru, the game server, or related OpenMU services constitutes acceptance of the current version of these rules.

Users who do not agree with these rules must discontinue use of OpenMU services.

2. Accounts, Characters, and Virtual Assets

Accounts, characters, virtual items, game currency, character statistics, and other game data exist exclusively within the OpenMU game service.

Virtual game objects are not banking assets and have no guaranteed monetary value outside OpenMU.

The administration may modify game characteristics, balance, items, rewards, and other elements of the game world as part of project development and maintenance.

3. Account and Data Protection

OpenMU takes reasonable technical measures to protect accounts and game data, including backups and server infrastructure protection.

However, no absolute or lifetime guarantee of data preservation is provided, as no technical system can be completely protected against every possible failure, attack, or extraordinary event.

4. Player-to-Player Transactions

Private transactions between players involving permitted virtual items or game resources are performed at the participants' own risk.

OpenMU does not guarantee private transactions between players and is not required to compensate losses resulting from fraud, mistakes, or voluntary transfers of virtual assets.

Selling, purchasing, or transferring accounts is prohibited unless expressly permitted by the OpenMU administration.

5. False Reports and Defamation

Users must not knowingly distribute false information about other users, the administration, or OpenMU, or intentionally provide fabricated or manipulated evidence regarding alleged violations.

Intentional false accusations, fabricated evidence, or defamatory conduct may result in chat restrictions, warnings, temporary suspension, or permanent account suspension.

6. Reporting Violations

Rule violations, bugs, cheats, or suspicious activity should be reported through official OpenMU support channels.

Administrative decisions may be based on available evidence, server logs, technical information, Anti-Cheat data, and the circumstances of each individual case.

Server Rules

1. Conduct Toward Staff and the Project

1.1. Deliberate insults, humiliation, or aggressive disrespectful behavior directed at OpenMU staff are prohibited.

Penalty: warning, chat restriction, or temporary/permanent suspension of the character and/or account depending on severity.

1.2. Real threats directed at OpenMU staff, users, or infrastructure are prohibited.

Penalty: suspension of the character and/or account. Duration is determined according to the nature of the threat.

2. Automation and Prohibited Software

2.1. Third-party macros, bots, scripts, or other software that automates gameplay in order to obtain an unfair advantage, items, currency, experience, or other game benefits are prohibited.

This rule does not apply to client or server automation features officially permitted by OpenMU, including supported automatic gameplay features.

Penalty: temporary or permanent suspension of the character and/or account.

2.2. SpeedHack, HitHack, packet hacks, memory hacks, and other software that modifies movement speed, combat mechanics, network packets, client memory, or provides an unfair technical advantage are prohibited.

Penalty: permanent suspension of the character and account. Where necessary, access from the associated IP address or device may also be restricted.

3. Exploiting Bugs and Modifying the Client

3.1. Knowingly exploiting bugs, vulnerabilities, or unintended server behavior for personal gain is prohibited.

Examples include:

  • duplicating items or game currency;
  • obtaining rewards through unintended mechanics;
  • bypassing server restrictions;
  • manipulating network packets;
  • unauthorized modification of game client memory;
  • using map, character, item, or event bugs to gain an advantage.

Modifying the OpenMU client in a way that provides an advantage in combat, movement, player detection, skill usage, or other gameplay mechanics is prohibited.

Performance optimization by disabling certain visual effects may only be permitted where explicitly allowed by the OpenMU administration.

If the client integrity system or Anti-Cheat identifies a file as required, unauthorized modification or replacement of that file is prohibited.

Penalty: temporary or permanent suspension of the character and account. Serious violations may also result in IP or device restrictions.

When submitting a player report concerning cheat software, the administration may require video evidence that clearly demonstrates the suspected violation.

A screenshot alone may be insufficient to establish the use of prohibited software.

The administration may also rely on server logs, Anti-Cheat telemetry, and other technical information; therefore, player-submitted video is not the only possible form of evidence.

If you discover a serious bug or vulnerability, stop using it and report it to the OpenMU administration. Useful and verified vulnerability reports may be rewarded at the administration's discretion.

4. Communication Between Players

4.1. Incitement of ethnic, racial, or similar hatred and targeted degradation of users on such grounds are prohibited.

Penalty: chat restriction or temporary/permanent suspension of the character/account.

4.2. Systematic insults, harassment, and excessively aggressive behavior toward other users are prohibited.

Penalty: chat restriction or suspension of the character/account.

Common competitive game expressions such as "noob" and similar remarks will generally not be treated as serious violations by themselves, unless they form part of systematic harassment.

4.3. A user's relatives, family members, or other close persons must not be used as targets of insults, threats, or humiliation.

Penalty: chat restriction or account suspension for a period determined by the administration.

4.4. Advertising other MU Online servers through game chat, private messages, or other OpenMU services is prohibited.

Penalty: temporary or permanent suspension of the character and account.

4.5. Direct insults, humiliation, or threats involving another user's relatives or close persons are prohibited.

Penalty: chat restriction or suspension of the character and account.

Additional Information

These rules cannot describe every possible situation in advance.

In situations not specifically covered by these rules, the OpenMU administration may make a decision based on the circumstances of the violation, its consequences, technical evidence, the user's previous violations, and generally accepted standards of conduct.

The administration may consider the severity of the violation, repetition, intent, and its impact on other players and the operation of the server.

These rules may be updated as OpenMU develops. The current version will always be published at openmu.ru.
